When Greg Dowling created GDA in 1988, it was with a passion for design and what design can do to improve the lives of people,  communities and the environment of this planet.

THIS IS WHAT WE DO

This is who we are…

Greg Dowling, Founder and Principal Architect

Greg’s 50 year career has been about as diverse as any could be. He’s designed nearly every type of building and has worked in some amazing places, met some incredible people and has experienced many cultures. He’s a creative thinker, always looking for a different approach to solving a problem or a new way of looking at how things work. His designs have been recognized for their success and their creative expression.

The return of GDA to it’s roots has given Greg a renewed sense of purpose, the opportunity to continue his exploration of the world and his creative passion beyond his love of architecture.

Where We've Been...

GDA began in 1988 in Vancouver, BC following 14 years practicing with other firms in Canada and the US, crafting the principles and skills that would lead GDA to the present day.

In 1997, GDA merged its practice to form DGBK Architects, bringing its creativity, innovation and leadership to transform DGBK into one on the most successful firms in the region.  After leading DGBK for 20 years, GDA returned to its roots in 2017 as a more intimate, client-centred firm.

With the same passion for design that started GDA,  we are focussed on both intimate projects for families and businesses  and larger, complex projects where we can bring what we do best – in a more focussed way – in collaboration with other firms and colleagues for the success of our clients.

Our work can be found throughout North America, Asia and the Pacific Rim.

And What We Stand For

We are modernists – we believe our buildings should reflect the time in which we live, while looking to our future.

We design with our clients, not for them. Our clients are the most important members of our design team.

We sketch and we draw – it’s an important part of our art – to feel the design in our hands.

We respect the place of our buildings, merging them with nature and the context of their environment.

We understand and apply the principles of sustainable design – in both active and passive ways, reducing energy use and creating healthier, more enlivening places.
